How Pair Mexicano works
This tournament
- Players sign up as fixed pairs — both partners stay together for the whole tournament.
- Round 1 matchups are random.
- From round 2 onward, the next round is generated on demand — pairs are matched by current standings (rank 1 vs rank 2, rank 3 vs rank 4, …).
- Team-based scoring: both partners earn the same points in every match.
- Optionally played for sets instead of points — each match is one set (6:0-6:4, 7:5 or 7:6) and games won become the standings points.
- Winner: the pair with the most total points after the final round.
- Points per match: 60 · Target roster size: 8.
How a match is played
- Fixed partners; matches go to the configured points-per-match total.
- Or play for sets: each match is a single set — 6:0-6:4, 7:5 or 7:6 — and the games won count as standings points.
- Both partners earn the same points each match.
Round generation
- Round 1 matchups are random.
- From round 2 onward the organizer generates the next round on demand — pairs are matched by current standings (rank 1 vs rank 2, rank 3 vs rank 4, …).
Standings
- Winner: the pair with the most total points after the final round.
Other formats
Americano
- Every player partners with every other player exactly once.
- N-1 rounds for N players (8 players → 7 rounds, 12 → 11, and so on).
- Individual scoring: your tally is the sum of your side's score in every match.
- Points per match is fixed — the two team scores always add up to that total.
- Winner: the player with the most total points at the end.
Mexicano
- Round 1 pairings are random.
- From round 2 onward, the organizer generates the next round on demand — pairings are seeded from current standings.
- Within every group of 4, the classic pairing is rank 1 + rank 4 vs rank 2 + rank 3 — closest competition every round.
- Individual scoring, same as Americano.
- Winner: the player with the most total points after the final round.
Round Robin
- Players are split into fixed doubles teams at the start (randomized pairings from the seat order).
- Every team plays every other team exactly once — for N/2 teams that's N/2 − 1 rounds.
- Team-based scoring: both partners earn the same points in every match they play together.
- Winner: the team with the highest total points.
- Requires an even number of teams (works with 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24 players).
Pair Americano
- Players sign up as fixed pairs — both partners stay together for the whole tournament.
- Each pair plays every other pair exactly once (round-robin schedule).
- Team-based scoring: both partners earn the same points in every match.
- Winner: the pair with the most total points after the final round.
- Requires an even number of pairs (4, 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24 players total).
Pair Round Robin
- Players sign up as fixed pairs — both partners stay together for the whole tournament.
- Every pair plays every other pair exactly once.
- Team-based scoring: both partners earn the same points in every match.
- Winner: the pair with the highest total points.
- Requires an even number of pairs (4, 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24 players total).
Groups + Knockout
- Fixed pairs (partners stay together the whole event) — pick a variant when creating the tournament: 3-8 pairs (6-16 players), 10 pairs (20 players), or 12 pairs (24 players).
- Group stage: 3p / 4p → a single round-robin group (3 rounds); 5p → a single group of 5 (5 rounds, 1 pair rests each round); 7p → a single group of 7 on 2 courts (7 rounds; every pair plays 4 matches, 3 pairs rest each round); 6p → 2 groups of 3 (3 rounds, 1 pair rests each round); 8p → 2 groups of 4 (3 rounds); 10p → 2 groups of 5 (5 rounds, 1 pair rests each round); 12p → 3 groups of 4 (5 rounds, two groups play per round, one rests).
- Group standings: Win = 3, Draw = 1, Loss = 0. Tiebreakers: head-to-head, then game difference, then more games won.
- Knockout: 3p → the top 2 play a final; 4p / 5p / 7p → final (1st vs 2nd) + 3rd-place match; 6p qualifies top 2 of each group to the semis (1A vs 2B, 1B vs 2A) while the two 3rd-placers play a 5th-place match; 8p / 10p qualify top 2 of each group to the semis + ranks 3-4 to the 5-8 placement bracket; 12p qualifies into 3 brackets (Championship 1-4, Middle 5-8, Lower 9-12).
- Finals: full ranking 1-3 (3p), 1-4 (4p), 1-5 (5p), 1-6 (6p), 1-7 (7p), 1-8 (8p), 1-10 (10p — extra 9th-place match), 1-12 (12p — 5/7/9/11 finals across all 3 brackets).
